Port Dickson or PD as its known is a favourite seaside destination for Malaysians as well as Singaporeans.

Here are some free things to do in Port Dickson.

1. Go to the beach

Port Dickson has a lot little beaches with the largest at Batu 4 called Pantai Saujana. The beach is clean. You can even camp there overnight cause the local council have set up large flood lights to light up the area. Every Saturday Night, across the road from the beach is the Night Market There a many food and beverages available. Like most beaches in Port Dickson, there toilet, shower rooms and surau facilities. And little stalls as well as food trucks. The others are Pantai Tanjung Gemok, Bagan Pinang, Pantai Cahaya Negeri, Pantai Teluk Kemang and Pantai Tanjung Biru (Blue Lagoon).

2. Visit Cape Rachado – The Tanjung Tuan Lighthouse

This cape is a gazetted forest as well as wildlife reserve. Its situated about 18km from Port Dickson town just after the Tanjung Biru Beach. Cape Rachado is a well-known bird watching spot particularly during the raptors migratory season. A few resorts around organise special Raptor Watch packages during this time.
The entrance to the reserve is just after PNB Ilham resort. There is a path to the lighthouse. Along the way you will see wildlife, insects and vegetation. The path is also popular with the local community in evenings for jogging or exercising. At the end of the path is the Cape Rachado Lighthouse. The Tanjung Tuan or Cape Rachado lighthouse is on the border of Negeri Sembilan and Melaka.

3. Army Museum

The Army Museum or as its called Muzeum Tentera Darat is about 7 km from PD town. Its located next to a military base.
There are several military vehicles outside such as planes, tanks, guns as well as a big train. We spend some time here as my son went gaga over the vehicles.
Within the building, you will discover more artifacts as well as articles on the history of the Malaysian Armed Forces. The entrance is free of charge and closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Opening hours are from 10 am till 5pm. Click here to see my review of the army museum. A Boy’s Wonderland – Muzium Tentera Darat, Port Dickson.

4. Lukut Museum

This little museum is not promoted anywhere, so you might miss it when visit Port Dickson. The entrance is also not visible as there is only one small signboard. Coming from PD town look for the Shell Petrol station and turn in the junction just before the Shell station.
The museum is in the former residence of the district officer. The bungalow cum museum contains artifacts unearthed during excavations at the fort such as pottery shards, stoneware and tiles. It shows the heydays when Lukut was a mining town. After visiting the museum, head over the ruins of Kota Lukut built by a Bugis warrior known as Raja Jumaat.

5. Fishing

Bring along a fishing rod and fish by beach or you can visit fishing village at Teluk Pelanduk where you will find a small jetty with fishing boats. As for baits, there small stalls along the main roads selling baits.

When a colleague who was from Port Dickson mentioned that there’s a little oceanarium with all colourful sea fishes. I search for it. But as with most places in Port Dickson, it was quite hidden.  It took a while to locate it. The landmark to look for heading from Teluk Kemang is the Cendol Bakar shop just after a petrol station. Turn left after the Cendol Bakar and go straight in and turn right. There are no parking bays, so you have to park on the side of the road. Not sure how to get there, just refer to the Google Map at the bottom. To know more, just visit my post at Colourful Fishes at the Pusat Ikan Hiasan Port Dickson

Well if you are still bored then head over to Melaka or Kuala Lumpur, which is about 1 hours drive from Port Dickson.

I bought two of this Car Backseat Inflatable Air Bed for our travels. As my Perdua Alza have 3 rows of seats, I thought by buying two backseat inflatable beds, I could join them together to make a bigger bed. I have found out that normal inflatable beds is not possible for my MPV due to the shape of the seat. But it was a bad idea cause the kids slipped through the cracks. And also it was really uncomfortable for them.

Well here is my review about this car backseat inflatable bed. There are two air inlets similar to other inflatable bed. The bottom one is for the leg area, sort of a stand holding the bed up. The bed fits most cars and it took me less that 4 minutes to fill both sections.

If you turn the inflatable bed over, you can make it sort of a soda for watching movies outside.

My Verdict

Its convinient if you have a normal sedan and you are travelling alone. As it fits the size of your seat, its quite comfortable for a person below 5 feet. However if you 6 feet like me you have to curl yourself up. But this car seat inflatable air bed will come in handy if you need a comfortable mattress for your kids to sleep.
