Hard Rock Hotel Penang, A ROCKIN Good TIME

Took this opportunity on the cheap rooms rates offered to see what Hard Rock Hotel Penang was like. This time around we got the rooms at half the normal price. We arrived at around 2.30pm. Registered. Also, as the room was not ready, we went for our late lunch. At a decent cafe just walking distance from the hotel. Food there were decent and service was quick.

Arriving back at the resort, our rooms were ready. I took 2 rooms as mum in law was also following. We booked the seaview room and it was worth it. The view was spectacular. Its nice to get up in the morning to a beautiful view of the ocean with no obstructions. It was worth the additional cash spent. We got the rooms on the fourth floor.

Room was modernly decorated, spacious and very clean. The rooms had all the typical amenities that a five star hotel would have. There’s also movie on demand with all the latest movies anytime you want. No need to follow a schedule. But we didnt spend much time in the room. The children loved the pool as there were slides and little fountains at the children area. There are a lot of lifeguards around and as with all staff at Hard Rock Hotel Penang. They were friendly. There’s additionally two more adult pools side by side to the children’s pool. But we spend our time at the kids pool. The hotel is additionally on a nice beach. However we didn’t swim in the ocean because of the jellyfish. Fortunately a lifeguard was nice enough to caution us.

Swimming Pool

Apart from the pool there is a Gym, Kids Room with hourly activities for the younger kids without their parents. A Tween club with video games, snooker and foosball for the teenagers. There’s also a restaurant by the beach. A pizza place Pizza place.

Tween Club
The breakfast was awesome. There were so much choices to choose from. Even the cook that was doing the omelette, prepared perfectly. I haven’t seen a omelette prepared this way in such a long time. Thought those abilities a were gone with the more older chefs. Credit to the culinary team. On the last day of our stay, we needed to pack our morning meal as Malaysia was on lockdown. Here you could see the helpfulness of all the staff. They made the process so easy for everybody. Thanks guys.
One thing we noticed was that the bus service in Penang especially on the Ferringhi Beach was very frequent. So transportation wouldn’t be a problem.

My Verdict

View from our Room

A wonderful hotel and full of experience. Definitely will come again. Overall our stay has been pleasant one and staff were great The staff are an absolute asset. They were always ready to help and knew their stuff. Didn’t go the Hard Rock Cafe as we had little kids with us. To the team at Hard Rock Penang. YOU GUYS REALLY ROCK!!!! Will surely visit again.

Entopia Penang, Walking among Butterflies

Fortunately we picked this spot as our first destination. Cause the following day. Malaysia was on lockdown and Entopia would have been closed. We didn’t get the opportunity to go to the Teddyville Museum cause they closed a day before the lockdown. I read in many websites on Penang that Entopia is the best spot to visit in Penang and I 100% concur with them. Although some may say the cost is somewhat steep, yet you should visit Entopia once in the course of your life.

Aside from the butterflies flying around, there is the Cocoon. Cocoon is a fun and educational discovery areas for the kids on insects. There are various segments with various themes. There is even one section on how it would like to be as small as an insect in their underground lair. You could walk around, among huge ants and larva. Extremely educational. The staff are extremely helpful. There is silk area where my children got an opportunity to spin silk treads out of a genuine silk worms. The spun strings were attached to little book markers.

My Verdict

Entopia is a large enclosed park where butterflies are allowed to fly around. Parking is ample and staff is friendly. The place is very well organised. The owners have put great thought into this places as the paths are easily accessible. My family had a ton of fun admiring the wonderful butterflies flying around. Some even landed on us. So walk slowly and quietly and enjoy the moment.

If you visit Penang this is a must see place. We spend about 3 hours there and felt that it wasn’t enough. There beautiful butterflies flying everywhere. One even landed on my wife’s forehead. Which was really funny. And it was a few mile from our hotel at Batu Ferringhi. Do look out for different activities that you can experience like releasing the butterflies.  Which we missed as we were in the middle of the park when they announced it. But the kids managed to extract silk treads out of silk worms to make into a bookmarker string to bring home. Something I feel they wouldn’t have a chance anywhere else. Very Educational and interesting.

My Hotel Review :- Lexis Suite Penang

Came here for a team building sometime in April. The location is very far from the town which made it an ideal location for team building. There is no place for us to escape.

As we came in as a group, our check in was fast. The room was spacious with two queen beds, along with a private pool and a sauna. The pool was smaller than the one at their sister property Grand Lexis Port Dickson. We got the room with the view of the villages. But it was ok. With the hectic team building schedule we didn’t have time to appreciate the view.

The breakfast was served in Roselle Coffee. Priced at RM35 per per person. The Buffet Breakfast was not large but it was adequete for me. The breakfast varies from Malaysian, Japanese to Western dishes. Lunch for us was a Bento set at their Umi Japanese Restaurant. The staffs was exceptionally helpful and obliging. Food was OK.

Apart from the swimming pool and sauna in your room, there are also other activities like kidz zone, congkak, chess, snooker and foosball. All located next to the public pool on the 8th floor. There also a gym and a spa on the 8th floor. The gym opened at 6am, which was great. I could work out before having breakfast.

The hotel is great. Rooms are huge and clean and the little pool is very nice to chill in.

It’s an perfect getaway for those searching for peace and quiet. Far from the hustle and bussle of the city. The hotel is only 10-15 minutes from the Penang International Airport.

It is close to a beach but you can’t use it for swimming and there are not water sports available. There is no crystal clear water to swim in.

If you looking for some activity or some form of entertainment, then this is not the place for you. There is not much to do around the hotel. Hotel is far from George Town and most of the attractions are on the other side of the island. There is no outside food places or shopping malls available near the hotel. All the places are in driving distance and not within the walking distance. Its in the middle a small village and most restaurants close by, serve local foods. But the hotel provides daily shuttle service to a nearby mall (Queensbay Mall) & Penang town near Komtar.

Other than that it was a nice stay in the hotel.

Line Clear Nasi Kandar Penang. Restaurant Review

I have heard so much about this place. A local artist imagepromoted it on a local reality show. Even Anthony Bourdain ate here. So naturally I wanted to see what all the hype was all about. The chance came when my co-workers wanted shop at the Chowrasta Market. So

I jump on the bus as Nasi Kandar Line Clear was nearby. When we reach Chowrasta Market, we found it closed. So we opt for dinner and took a slow walk to the Nasi Kandar Line Clear.

The Nasi Kandar Line Clear is situated in an alley way at the Chulia Street (Lebuh Chulia) and Penang Road (Jalan Penang) junction. There is a Nasi Kandar shop next to it but the original Line Clear is located within the alley. Line Clear have been serving tasty and inexpensive Indian Muslim dishes for more than 80 years. There is a big mural on the wall showing the decendants and the original owner of Line Clear. Sitting are communal tables therefore you will have a good chance  to meet with the locals. Being situated in the alley way, it may turnaway for some because there will be cats running around. Nevertheless its not really too bad. Tables and floor were clean.

As for the food. Much like all Nasi Kandar outlets there is a range of curries, meats and seafood. Price is is pretty affordable cause I did not take the prawns.  I am actually allergic to seafood and also we avoid consuming seafood at tourist locations as it can be pretty expensive. So if you decide to take any kind of seafood in Malaysia, always ask for the cost first. My two friends had two bowls of Mee Udang at a local Malay Restaurant here. |That they had a surprise of their life. As the check came up to RM90. That may be about RM45 per bowl. I took the standard items and a fried chicken. The total bill came to be lower than RM10. Which usually is reasonable. And the taste of the curry was really nice, not too spicy. The fried chicken was well marinated.

I have heard this place gets really crowded for lunch and dinner.  Also as mentioned earlier, you can’t be too concerned with hygiene, As its located in the alley way.

So if you are in Penang and want some authentic Nasi Kandar. Then head over to Line Clear. A word of advise if you don’t want your rice drowned by curry, let them know early. Or else they will “banjir” your plate. Which means they will pour lots of curry over the rice until you cannot see the rice. Litterally flood your plate.
